DOVE offers a crisis hotline that operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and is answered by trained staff and volunteers. Hotline staff offer a confidential, empathetic, non-judgmental, sensitive, and supportive ear, as well as a wealth of information on available options and resources.

 

Emergency Shelter

DOVE operates an 18-bed emergency shelter for individuals and families fleeing abusive relationships. Shelter guest services include: individual and family case management, crisis intervention/prevention, development of family strengths and needs assessment, assistance with basic needs, legal advocacy, benefits and systems advocacy, childcare, and children’s services. In addition, guests are offered on-site sexual assault, mental health and substance abuse services through collaborations with DOVE’s community partners.

 

Community Services

Domestic Violence Counseling and Safety Planning
DOVE staff work with individuals and families to help process their experiences and begin the healing process as well as identify safety risks and protective factors to develop an individualized safety plan.

Individual and Family Case Management and Advocacy
Family Advocates and Case Managers work with clients to identify their goals and address the problems, needs, or adjustments of the individual or family system that have resulted from domestic violence. Activities may include domestic violence counseling, problem identification, systems advocacy, service plan development, connection to other service providers and safety planning.

Support Groups
DOVE offers multiple support groups designed to meet the various needs of survivors of domestic violence. Free childcare is available for most groups. Our groups include, but are not limited to, 10-week psycho-educational Support Group, On-Going Domestic Violence Support Group, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered Domestic Violence Support Group, Abuse-in-Later-Life Support Group, Financial Self-sufficiency group, Parenting After Violence group, and a Survivor’s Writing group.

Legal Advocacy
DOVE’s Legal Advocates provide guidance and navigation through the legal system, with special attention to probate matters (i.e. divorce, custody, visitation, paternity, etc.). Through our Quincy Court Outreach Program, our Legal Advocates are present at the Quincy District Court each Friday morning for the Domestic Violence Session. Legal Advocates are also present at the Norfolk County Probate Court.

Support for Family and Friends of Survivors
Friends and family members of abuse survivors sometimes feel at a loss for how to support and help their loved one. DOVE provides information, referrals, education, and support to equip non-abusive friends and family members to better understand and support their loved ones.

911 Cell Phones
DOVE provides free 911-only cell phones to victims of domestic violence.

Sexual Assault Services
Sexual Assault services are now available three days per week at DOVE’s Outreach & Family Services Center. Sexual assault services are provided by Womansplace’s state-certified sexual assault counselors.

Children’s Services and Childcare
Historically, safe and affordable childcare has been a barrier to women receiving much needs domestic violence victim services. DOVE offers safe, free and developmentally appropriate childcare on-site while parents participate in services. Staff also work with parents to develop service plans for each child to ensure their needs are met.

Address Confidentiality Program Assistance
Certified through the Massachusetts Office of the Secretary, DOVE staff assist clients with the application process of the Address Confidentiality Program. The ACP provides a safe substitute address for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking to use their legal address, as well as work and/or school address.

Victim Compensation Application Assistance
DOVE staff assist victims of domestic violence crimes with the application process for the Victim Compensation Program through the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office.

Referrals and Information
DOVE offers information and referrals to a wide array human services, both locally and statewide.

Prevention

YouthSpeak
YouthSpeak, also known as DOVE’s teen dating violence program, educates teenagers and young adults on the complex issues of healthy and unhealthy and abusive relationships while supporting and empowering youth to become leaders and agents for change in their communities. YouthSpeak has two goals:

  1. provide direct services to children and youth who are primary and secondary victims of domestic violence, and
  2. develop leadership skills in youth so they may educate their peers and speak out against domestic violence.

Community Education and Training
To raise awareness and prevent domestic violence, DOVE, Inc. offers trainings, workshops and seminars to law enforcement, health care professionals, schools, businesses, social service providers, religious organizations and the community. Training topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Child Witnesses to Violence
  • Dating Violence in College/University Communities
  • Domestic Violence in Faith-based Communities
  • Domestic Violence Awareness for Service Providers
  • Domestic Violence in the Workplace
  • Domestic Violence and Health Care Settings
